Installing APK Files to an Emulated Device

This page is for installing APK files to an emulated device. This is done through the use of the Android Debug Bridge (ADB). Please refer to http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html(external link) for more advance uses of ADB for the emulator.

  1. Ensure the desired AVD is running
  2. Open a new terminal, be sure to get root access (sudo su password: forensics)
  3. Type in the command “adb devices”. This will start the abd daemon and will show the current AVDs that are running

  4. To install an apk, type in “.adb install <path of apk file>”

  5. Confirmation will be given on a successful install to the device
  6. Switch to the running AVD

  7. Click on the Launcher Icon

  8. Confirm that the application is installed on the device
